NEW YORK NEW YORK – I had a bit of time to day to get to know my new lens a bit better. Here’s an image taken in our living room. I’ve used a technique called focus stacking: taking 6 (in this case) images with differing focus points and combining them (using specialized software) into a single image. This was taken with my Alpa Max; I’ve leveled the camera and shifted the lens downward about 12mm to get a pleasing composition with a prominent foreground (a common strategy for shooting wide angle lenses) at the same time keeping vertical lines true.

Here’s what my Alpa TC looks like with the new Rodenstock 32mm lens and my Phase One digital back. As you see it’s a handful, but actually quite manageable.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – This morning I worked out a trade, exchanging my 35mm Schneider XL lens for a Rodenstock 32mm at Fotocare. The Schneider has some technical issues with the IQ 180 back that I’ve been fight for some time. The light was slightly hazy with nice transparent shadows. Fotocare is in the flatiron district so I did some shooting on my way there and then test drove the new lens to make sure that I was comfortable shooting it hand held (its a pound and a half heavier than the Schneider).

Heres the Flatiron building (actually its shadow) shot with the Schneider. The issues are fairly subtle and don’t show up in a black and white image at web resolution.

WASHINGTON CONNECTICUT – I went out looking for barns this morning and found a local farm with a really nice collection. Here’s a sample taken with my Alpa and 35mm Schneider XL lens. It was late for this sort of shot and the light was not noteworthy. Have to get up earlier as longer days approach.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Winter is closing down here, which means that the days get longer, which means that you have to get up earlier to get the best morning light, which means that you’re probably going to see more sunsets from me. Nonetheless I managed to get up early enough today to catch some very nice light at the construction site near us. Taken with my Alpa TC and a 35mm Schneider lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK -I went to the Armory Show today. There was very little in the two vast halls that I could pass off as interesting so I’ll spare you (I did see some nice pictures at Yancy Richardson’s but I’ve done plenty of photos of photos here so I’ll spare you). Walking back through Hell’s Kitchen with my Alpa I caught this:
