NEW YORK NEW YORK – Ugh. Tax day is April 15. Today is my day to complete pulling our 2012 documentation together to hand over to our accountant, who will make an educated guess as to our liability so we can file an extension on April 15. This, plus some calls and reading in my law practice, took over the day. Visually I’m out of the moment and out of touch.

But wait. What about my blog. On days like this I get small with my iPhone. Here you go:

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Carrying the big guy today, my Leica S medium format camera and a new 24mm super wide lens (this completes my trade out of my former Phase One medium format kit). A very, very capable camera, but it doesn’t sing to me the way the Leica rangefinder cameras do. I’m continuing to work on this. In reality it may be that I see in black and white and shouldn’t be trying to shoot color with this camera.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Yeah. OK. The last post was an April Fools prank. Lame? Whatever. I actually did spend some time on Randall’s Island with my new Leica M as well as my trusty Leica Monochrome, and three lenses. It was a poor day for landscape because there was a high, bright overcast sky that made the light flat and dull. I nonetheless had a sensational time. Here’s the 59th Street Bridge taken with the Leica M and a 21mm Super Elmar M Lens and converted to black and white in Lightroom, followed by some color from the same camera and lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I took my new Leica over to Randalls Island today but OMG, disaster has struck. For some reason all of the images are coming out of the camera upside down. Help me out someone. What to do?

WARREN CONNECTICUT – I spent part of the day getting to know my new camera, a Leica M, also known as the M240. With this camera Leica dropped the number after the “M” on their rangefinder cameras (so just “M” not “M10”). Marketing genius. Whatever.

I’m starting to get pretty good results from it. It’s operations are the smoothest and quietest of an Leica M ever. There’s not much of a learning curve. Here it is with my f.95 Noctilux strapped onto it with a neutral density filter that lets me shoot in daylight wide open. Below (the yellow tulips) is with a 1939 Carl Zeiss Jena 85mm f1.5 Sonar, a famous lens that doesn’t couple properly with the Leica rangefinder so it requires live view to be focused (the new M is first Leica to offer live view).

On this day last year: Spring. March 30 seems to be tulip day. Mayan wheel of time?

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Here we are, on the street in Manhattan in bright early Spring light, with my new Leica M and a 21mm Super Elmar M lens. This is familiar territory working through the plusses and minuses of a new Camera.

Same lens (21mm) but three frames stitched.
