NEW YORK NEW YORK – We’re now in the run-up to next week’s trip to Tokyo and Hong Kong so I decided to shoot a Japanese vase with my new Leica Q compact camera. The Leica Q is a relatively compact camera with a lovely 28mm f1.7 fixed lens. It’s the most responsive point an shoot that I’ve ever owned. The lens’s lovely creamy bokeh is illustrated in the second shot of coleus gone to seed.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Tall grass near the swimming pool shot with my Leica Monochrom and 75mm Leica Summicron lens, which produces lovely “bokeh” (a Japanese word referring to the quality of the out of focus portions of the image).

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Not much going on today. I tried to make a manifestly uninteresting shot interesting with selective focus.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Have I said this before? Reviewing the infrastructure for this site I noted that I have key words for “Fall”, “Winter” and “Spring”, but not “Summer”. I guess that’s because summer feels like the normal state of affairs, but statistically that’s not true – winters are actually a bigger deal here. Visually what summer means to me is green stuff overgrowing and pressing in on us. So I’ve added “Summer” as a keyword and you’ll see a bit of it here over the next month.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – We drove up here this morning seeking refuge from what’s happening in our life in New York – helping out with a very sick friend who has been hospitalized with cancer. It is a perfect summer weekend so we got serious down time.
