NEW YORK NEW YORK – I traveled to Boston today but caught some details of our life at home at sunrise. As I’ve noted in the past that we have collected some Venini glass – some of it is in the photos that I took before leaving. I stopped at the Venini store on Via Montenapoleone in Milan on our recent trip – prices have doubled since I last looked at them a year or so ago. This is ruinous. Most of the stuff on eBay now is junk being held out by sellers as Venini or like Venini.

Here are the pictures, taken with my Fuji Xpro-1 (my in-a-hurry camera – I saw the light as I was running out the door to catch a plane) and 18mm Fuji lens.

More scanned film from an earlier date. Have I commented before that a photo-a-day blog would be very difficult shooting film because of the time lags developing film and scanning? Taken with my Leica M3 and a 50mm Summilux lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Still suffering from a bit of jet lag. Maria and I both woke up very early – in plenty of time to to watch the sunrise illuminate our living room. Maria picking up after an early morning of catching up on magazines and newspapers. Taken with my Fuji XPro 1.

As I write this my Milan film came back from being developed, and I’ve started to scan it. Here are some samples taken with my Leica M3 and Ilford XP5 film. What I notice most? The grain. I’ll be leaking these out into my daily posts as I scan them.

Duomo taken with 50mm Summilux, two frames stitched (yes, once you’ve scanned film you can stitch it!)

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – This is an interesting time of year light wise. Sunrises and sunsets are much further North than you expect – on Manhattan this means that the sun appears to rise to the North because Manhattan is actually “tilted” 29 degrees to the East. The consequences: sunrises happen where you don’t expect them and sunlight illuminates interior scenes in unexpected ways. I’ll be exploring this phenomenon over the next couple of days. Anyway here’s sunlight in a place in our bedroom where I hadn’t seen it before, shot with my Sony NEX-7 and a 35mm Summilux lens.

WARREN, CONNECTICUT – Odd, this photography stuff. You can travel to Arizona, spend a week shooting and come back with not much. Or you can walk around the house, spot a familiar object in elegant light that transforms it. Here’s a chair in our dining room capture with my Leica M9 and a 50mm Noctilux.
