VISCHER FERRY and SARATOGA SPRINGS NEW YORK – We took a hike and picnicked in the Vischer Ferry area – 20 minutes’ drive south of Saratoga – today. There’s a very pleasant trail that follows a towpath of one of the extensions of the Erie Canal. It started to pour just as we got back to the car. By the time that we got back to Saratoga there was one of those post storm moments with amazing light. I captured some images that are the first that I’ve really liked in Saratoga.

Here’s to towpath with my Leica M9 and 24mm Summilux.

SARATOGA SPRINGS NEW YORK – I guess we must be helicopter parents. Our daughter, Francesca, is taking the New York State bar exam in Saratoga next week so we drove up here to keep her company at meal times. Saratoga is warmed over from the gilded age – Diamond Jim Brady and C V Whitney are long gone, replaced by hordes in t-shirts. It’s the end of the ballet season and the start of the racing season. We stayed in a Victorian relic named the Adelphi Hotel. I’m not in love with any of the images that I’ve taken here.

CAMBRIDGE MASSACHUSETTS – I arrive early for a dinner meeting here and managed to take a walk along the Charles on this perfect early Summer day. Both images taken with my Sony Nex-7 and 24mm Leica Summilux lens – the second was taken at f1.4 with a .9 neutral density filter.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Woke up with a headache and general fuzziness. Not a supper interesting day from a visual standpoint with a high, overcast flat sky so I spend most of the day in the house laying out a new AV setup. When I took my Sony Nex-7 and a 50mm Leica Summilux to the fish trailer on 202 to buy dinner the sun cooperated with a brief breakthrough.

KENT CONNECTICUT – I dropped by to see my friend Greg at RT Facts here, picking up a side table and a fixed stand for our fire pit. Greg is an antique dealer specializing in architectural debris, much of it very large. I got a new camera body: a Sony Nex-7, a very compact little item with 24 megs of resolution from a sensor that’s about 2/3 the size of a standard 35mm frame. The idea is that I would use it with my Leica lenses. (A lot of people think like this – this is why Leica lenses are currently sold out at every dealer in the world.) This is with the Nex-7 and 24mm Summilux lens – these look like they were removed on the demolition of a 1930’s Federal building.

MORRIS CONNECTICUT – I drove over to Morris this morning to catch the Morris Congregational Church in good morning light. I got a late start – we had house guests so I needed to attend to breakfast. By time I got to Morris it was too late – the light was flat and dull – but I saw these school buses on the way back and they seemed unusually vivid. Taken with my Alpa Max and 72mm Schneider.

KENT CONNECTICUT – I’m getting back on my game in Connecticut. I took my Alpa Max out with a tripod on a field trip to Kent Connecticut where I stopped at a remarkable chocolate shop called Belgique. Do click through the link – the site is over the top. So Belgique is closed today – evidently on vacation to rest after the holiday rush. Taken with the Max, a 72mm Schneider lens and my Phase One IQ 180 back.
