NEW YORK NEW YORK – I took a test spin today with an interesting new camera, the Light L16, which promises medium format performance in a compact, iPhone like form factor. It’s actually the size of a small paper back book. The imagery is actually quite good at 35mm and 75mm (for technical reasons it is not as good at other focal lengths). It’s rather film-like (based on my recent experiments with film) with about 50-60 megs of resolution. It’s slow to operate, focuses slowly and has limited high ISO so it really is like digital medium format. Dynamic range is flare resistance aren’t all these should be. For the latter reasons reviewers have blasted it but I’m intrigued because the technology is software driven and the manufacturer has promised updates.
