NEW YORK NEW YORK – A day for abstractions. I fit photography around practicing law today, finding mostly abstractions. Shot with my Leica Monochrom and 35mm Summicron version IV lens (aka “the bokeh king”). Below you will see a long exposure from a taxi moving up Park Avenue, a “Where’s Waldo?” looking painting in an office and a piece of sculpture at Lever House.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – There’s a relatively recent new installation at Lever House: a large bronze version of the inflatable giant rat that labor unions inflate outside of sites using scab labor. This is a work by a collective called The Bruce High Quality Foundation. Because of the material and the site the work is gently ironical – one assumes that the creators were hoping for more emotional impact. Taken with my Leica Monchrom and 28mm Summichron lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – It’s leap day. Also known as Sadie Hawkins Day. Another busy day at my day job but I managed to get out to incorporate a new sculpture in the garden of Lever House into a straight up cityscape. Shot with my Sony Nex-7 and a 24mm Summilux lens.

If you are expecting a picture from this day last year of course you will be disappointed because there wasn’t a February 29, 2011. But I decided to look back four years in my archive to 2008 (before I started the one photo every day project), and I found some images from a wine tasting hosted by Christian Moueix at Dominus vineyards in California. Christian owns Chateau Petrus and a number of other Pomerol and Saint-Emilion properties. Here are the wines that were served at the tasting. Taken with my Leica M8 and a Leica Wide Angle Tri-Elmar lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Well. Another long day at my day job. I managed to get out for a few minutes and catch this at Lever House with my Sony Nex-7. Not brilliant (the light was flat and ugly today frustrating my attempt to get something decent on the street at sunrise, but it’s a picture and I’ve promised you a picture a day.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Out on the street on a bright day between meetings with my iPhone. This image has been altered; I took a number of images in rapid succession; I added the shadow to the image of the walking man.

On this day one year ago: snow drifts. This seems odd, now. This winter we haven’t had any real snow since the end of October.

Thursday November 17, 2011

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Back home. I carried my little Ricoh GRD IV through the day, catching autumn foliage ending up on the sidewalk, and a new installation at Lever House, a salt water aquarium and plants by Paula Hayes. Very cool. Worth a look.
