NEW YORK NEW YORK – I had meetings in Boston today, and then took the Acela back down here. I prefer the train to flying, but there is a downside: on the New York end you end up at Penn Station. I got my images of the day outside of Penn Station as the light was failing. I generally travel with my Leica Monochrom and a single lens.

By the way there was some confusion about my post for March 6. I’m writing this in Connecticut (on March 14 – remember that I post with a week’s delay from the date of the image) and my image for March 6 is on my computer in New York. I’ll sort it out when I get back to New York later this week.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A prolific day. I took time to slow down and shoot. The light in Manhattan was lovely. I wasn’t fighting the cold, a cold, equipment issues or anything else. Leica Monochrom and 50mm Summicron Asp. lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I’ve been exploring the relationship of New York to its natural setting for a while now. Recently I’ve been shooting wide open, with a neutral density filter if need be, to isolate trees and other natural features from buildings. Here are a couple of examples from today, and as a specaial, extra added bonus, Times Square at night.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A day in Tribeca with my Leica Monochrom and 50mm FLE lens. It was very, very cold: the wind off of the Hudson River is savage. The Hudson River Park here is lovely but uninhabitable in the winter. The second image, “Marine Repair”, is two frames stitched in Photoshop.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I spent some time today shooting around the Queensborough Bridge on the Manhattan side. There’s a lot of visual interest going on here – this is a spot where I’ve shot a dozen times. All images were taken with my Leica Monochrom and 50mm Summicron FLE lens. This is the equipment that I shoot best with – I can actually get along with one camera and one lens (despite owning multiple bodies and a lot of lenses). I shoot with a three stop neutral density filter which lets me shoot this lens wide open in daylight. The chimney image is three frames stitched; the look up image is two frames. The stitching technique lets me use the 50mm as if it were a wide angle zoom.

On this day last year (day 2,314): Reservoir I had been watching for this shot for years. It’s one of my favorites from last year.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – On my walk down Park Avenue to an early morning breakfast meeting I looked up. Later in the morning I caught a reflection of the AT&T building. Both taken with my Leica Monochrom and 50mm Summicron FLE lens; the second image is three frames stitched.
