NEW YORK NEW YORK. I spent the middle of the day exploring 9th Avenue. Hells’ Kitchen is no longer really Hell’s Kitchen. First and Ninth Avenues are among the few streets in New York which retain some of their “Old New York” 19th and early 20th Century character. I’ll be shooting them to preserve their memory; there areas are changing very rapidly.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I got out and shot alleys today. I’ve been shooting back doors and alleys, the places where the trash and gas meters and broken things collect, for six or seven years now. This is a good one

WARREN CONNECTICUT and NEW YORK NEW YORK – I struggled a bit in Connecticut but then had a good early evening back in New York. I love these very long days with marvelous light at 7:00 – 8:00 in the evening. These three very different images are technically similar: they are stitched from multiple frames. This gives me medium format resolution with a much smaller, easier to handle, camera.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Tough day to edit. I have a lot of plausible images from today so I’m putting them up here, with apologies for the crowding.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I’m in the process of rediscovering my 35mm F1.4 Summilux FLE lens. I’ve worked wit a number of 35s, including the version 4 Summicorn (known as the “bokeh king”) and the current Summichron. the FLE is wonderfully sharp corner to corner and has a look that is a good balance between contrast and acutance. I had drifted away from it because it has some tendency to flare, but of course if you know that you take steps to mitigate it. Here it is showing off on Third Avenue, three frames stitched.

On this say four years ago (day 595): Empire State and Flatiron. As I said four years ago this is a twofer in terms of iconic structures.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I visited Condé Nast’s new offices in the new World Trade Center today. It’s an amazing structure and there was wonderful light so I had a field day. Mini gallery today.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – The AT&T Building, an icon, at an odd angle. Taken with my new Leica Monochrom 246, which is taking some getting used to.
