NEW YORK NEW YORK – Two images of a traffic control box from a walk around town today. Taken with my Leica Monochrom and 1958 Dual Range Summicron lens.
On this day last year: GW Bridge. I’ve adapted this to be a banner for this blog.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A physically miserable day – rain, fog, low flat sky. This is from my office window with the Leica Monochrom.
On this day one year ago: citicorp center.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – We went downtown to explore the small retail presence of an online eyeglasses maker. They’re in the Puck building, just south of Houston. It appears that this building is now owned by New York University which is quietly bought up very important real estate in this area. Here’s the view out the 7th floor window. Taken with my Leica Monochrom and a 50mm Dual Range Summicron lens. Six frames stitched. The stitching software has done something odd here – the perspective of the original version of this image was somehow squished on the horizontal axis. I’ve replaced it with a de-squished version.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Back in New York, still shooting with my Monchrom and Dual Range Summicron. It’s hard to find tenderloin-style sleeze in Manhattan at this point – porn shops have been zoned and priced out of the real estate market. There is, however, still a pocket of porn shops around the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
On this day last year: Container terminal.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – Out with the Leica Monochrom again today. I’m trying it out as an infrared camera – I strapped on an infrared filter and snapped a couple of dozen images. This isn’t really practical because the filter needs 10 stops additional exposure – the camera evidently has very good infrared filtering. Here’s an example:

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I’m loving my Leica Monochrom. In post processing I’ve been experimenting with some film looks to pretty good effect. Here are some examples from today all taken with the Monochrom and my 55-year old 50mm Dual Range Summicron.
I look for construction sites and vacant lots that create views through blocks that don’t exist otherwise and won’t exist for very long. Here’s the New York Life building – three frames stitched in Photoshop.
Morning light in our dining room.
On this day last year: fire pit. Color!
NEW YORK NEW YORK – Well, here we are in front of the Seagrams Building. A typical hangout for me. I often have meetings in the area and the plaza between the Seagrams Building and the Racquet and Tennis Club is one of the great urban spaces in the country. The plaza is presently featuring sculpture by John Chamberlain – works that look like they are made of crumpled up aluminum foil, but on a really large scale. Here’s one taken with my every-present Leica Monochrom and 35mm Summilux lens:
On this day last year: Matthew Marks Gallery.
