NEW YORK NEW YORK – Much better light in Manhattan than yesterday so I’m feeling a bit better about this project. Shot with my Sony A7Riii and 55mm Zeiss f1.8 lens.  The third image below is three frames stitched, a technique that I use like a zoom lens (to effectively zoom out to wider focal lengths.

Monday January 1, 2018 New Year’s Day

NEW YORK NEW YORK – We drove back to town on New Years Day. Visually a dull day – an inauspicious start to the New Year.

I’m still shooting my Sony A7Riii. The exercise that I went through a few weeks ago (shooting film and the Sony in parallel and then working out a set of black and white conversion actions in Adobe Lightroom) is a great success – I’m getting very good, film like, black and white out of the process.

Day 3,000 of one photograph every day. That’s right. Starting the New Year at 3,000. I’ve gotten a bit behind on posting because frankly it’s boring – but I have been taking a picture every day.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – We made a pilgrimage to the Japan Society (near the UN) for the brilliant Sugimoto show, the Gates of Heaven, and caught a relatively new vest-pocket part on the way. We caroled on Park Avenue in the evening at the Brick Church ceremony lighting the Christmas trees on Park Avenue.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A film gallery today. I’m shooting with a late Leica M3 – I plan on pursuing film with a Leica M3. I also have an early model M3 that is in for an overhaul – I’ll sell one of these cameras when the early model comes back, depending on which I like best.

Today I’m shooting a very high acutance, essentially grainless, film called Adox. The results are remarkable – the downside is that it’s rated at ISO 20 but is closer to ISO 12, so it’s full sunlight or a tripod. The clear base also has a nasty curl, making it a challenge to scan.

Anyway, here’s a gallery of film shots.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A perfect day. Francesca and Derek organized a continuation of last night’s party at the Breslin, and I spent some time shooting medium format film with my Mamiya 7 and a new (used) 120mm lens.
