NEW YORK NEW YORK – Weird. You take a month’s break from visiting a place, you come back, and it’s entirely changed. Tom Sachs’s sculpture, Hello Kitty, has been in the courtyard of Lever House for longer than I’ve been photographing for this blog. Now it’s gone, so it’s “bye bye Hollo Kitty”. I guess I really like Hello Kitty. The little gold doodad that replaced Hello Kitty appears to be a part of a much larger installation by Rachel Feinstein entitled “The Snow Queen”. Photographed with my Leica M9 and a 28mm Summicron lens.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – I went to lunch at Nougatine, the more casual room in Jean-Goerges Vongerichten’s restaurant at Columbus Circle. I met a friend there in our ongoing quest to try every burger in New York. The burger was fabulous, except we felt that the pickles should have been served on the side. Here’s the view East on Central Park South as I’m walking to lunch, shot in infra red with my Leica M8.2 and a 35mm Summicron pre-Asp. lens – two frames stitched. The M8 sensor is sensitive to infrared light which results in “IR-polution” of images (a magenta cast) unless you use an IR-blockig filter in front of the lens. Here I’m using a filter that blocks everything except IR light.

On this day last year: 1435 Lexington Avenue. Out my window.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Hmmm . . .I’m getting behind posting. I’ve actually taken and selected images a week ahead of this post, but I have not had enough time to write this stuff. And I haven’t been looking forward to this post. The best image of the day is a not-very-good shot of a friend (caught at Quatorze Bis) who I’m not identifying because I don’t care for the image. Taken with my Leica M9, but it’s not the camera’s fault.

On this day one year ago: Connecticut shot in infra red. At the time this seemed like a lot of snow, but it was really nothing compared to this year.

NEW YORK, HEW YORK – An SUV that had the misfortune to be parked on the street during the three snowstorms that hit New York while we were away. The snow quickly passes from a beautiful white blanket hiding the City’s flaws to a dirty eyesore. Taken with my Leica.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – I watched a remarkable light develop out my office window. Rain wet Third Avenue reflected light that seemed to be shining only on it. Another demonstration that there are pictures all around us if only we watch for them. Four exposures take with my Lecia M9 and a 90mm Elmarit lens stitched in Photoshop.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – I took a walk after a meeting on West 12th Street. St. Vincents Hospital, which recently closed, was the where may of the first casualties came. This is an ad hoc memorial in the block south of St. Vincents.
